Portland Cement Concrete Inspector Training Course

Portland Cement Concrete Inspector Training Course

IMPORTANT COURSE INFORMATION
This course covers Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Inspector Certification only.

The Contractors Association of West Virginia (CAWV) is pleased to offer its annual Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Inspector Certification Training to help individuals prepare for the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) certification examinations required under the agency's Quality Assurance Program. Thousands of construction professionals have completed CAWV certification courses over the years.

Important Certification Update

Effective January 1, 2026, the WVDOH requires all new Portland Cement Concrete Inspector certification applicants to complete a minimum of 40 hours of documented hands-on  training under the supervision of a WVDOH Certified PCC Inspector.

Required Hands-On Training

Participants must complete hands-on training in the tests on which they will be evaluated:

  • AASHTO R60 – Standard Practice for Sampling Freshly Mixed Concrete
  • ASTM C1064 – Standard Test Method for Temperature of Freshly Mixed Hydraulic-Cement Concrete
  • AASHTO T119 – Standard Method of Test for Slump of Hydraulic Cement Concrete
  • AASHTO T196 – Standard Method of Test for Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Volumetric Method
  • AASHTO T152 – Standard Method of Test for Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Pressure Method
  • AASHTO T121 – Standard Method of Test for Density (Unit Weight), Yield, and Air Content (Gravimetric) of Concrete
  • AASHTO R100 – Standard Method of Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Field
  • AASHTO T22 – Standard Method of Test for Compressive Strength of Cylindrical Concrete Specimens
After Training

After the participant completes the required training, the supervising WVDOH Certified PCC Inspector must complete the Hands-On Training Log Sheet and include their printed name, signature, certification number and date of completion. The completed log sheet must then be submitted electronically to the WVDOH Quality Assurance Program Administrator.

The participant will be contacted by the WVDOH Materials Control, Soils & Testing (MCS&T) Concrete Section to schedule the practical examination. The practical examination may be attempted before completion of the apprenticeship cycle.

The practical examination must be completed within 90 days of the original written examination date.

For complete certification requirements, please review WVDOH MP 106.03.50 .
